Shows which spring metal contact does what. Well for  a 65/66 switch.

You did not list the year of the car you are working on. It varies a lot!

Possibly you have a late 65 /66 where the switch is held in place with a 
hard to see snap ring? Also discussed in the link I posted. Early 65 
does not have the snap ring.
