Yep, been there done that, only I used a propane torch to heat the head 
pocket.  The aluminum head swells more than the iron cylinder which will 
loosen things up.  Tap each/opposite ends of the head lightly with a 
rubber mallet to "exercise" the cylinder-to-head joint.  It will come out.
