I always called it "gagging" and yes it can sometimes resolve a carb 
issue or two without having to disassemble anything.  The "gagging" 
trick tends to suck fuel backwards up from the idle circuits (and main 
jet) which could remove dirt or grit etc that could have plugged a 
passage.   I've "repaired" more than a few carbs this way.  :-)


...it also works on a Carter AFB as long as you have big hands.
