Thanks James,
U joints and rear wheel bearings are good as far as I can tell on the car. Do not want to disassemble anything yet. I always travel with a point and shoot thermometer and it tells me no unusual temps on any of the rotating parts. I will find the source eventually, hopefully not on the side of the road.

Jim: Check the u-joints for rotational play. Real easy to do with wheels
off ground.
May be a needle bearing failure in progress within one of the u-joints.

Subject: <VV> Strange sound in rear
Hi all,
My 65 corsa has begun making a low freq noise when making a sharp turn
either right or left from somewhere in the drive train at low speed. Like
when you would turn sharp in a parking lot. It sounds a bit like ooh ooh
ooh. Only when turning. Checked wheel bearings and transaxle temps and no
hot spots after 20 miles on the freeway. Does not make the sound when
running on jack stands. Makes the noise hot or cold. Could it be the posi
clutch pack?
Thanks,
