Thanks Jim!
My wife was with me and we both thought it was coming from the rear, maybe right rear. I have been accused of having auditory hallucinations in the past. Most of the time they have been real. I will give it the ear out the window test to be sure.

Once, I was “tricked” by a rotational sound that I thought was coming from the passenger side rear of my ’69. Thinking it was a wheel bearing, I replaced it. [I had already replaced the u-joints.] The sound was still there after taking it out for a test drive! Having a friend drive the car, I sat in the passenger seat and stuck my head out the window with my left ear facing the front and right one facing the rear as we slowly
drove through my suburban neighborhood. Immediately, I heard the sound coming from the FRONT! It was a bad passenger side front wheel bearing. Moral: Try to get a directional fix before attempting the “fix!”

Jim: Check the u-joints for rotational play. Real easy to do with wheels
off ground.
May be a needle bearing failure in progress within one of the u-joints.

Hi all,
My 65 corsa has begun making a low freq noise when making a sharp turn
either right or left from somewhere in the drive train at low speed. Like
when you would turn sharp in a parking lot. It sounds a bit like ooh ooh
ooh. Only when turning. Checked wheel bearings and transaxle temps and no
hot spots after 20 miles on the freeway. Does not make the sound when
running on jack stands. Makes the noise hot or cold. Could it be the posi
clutch pack?
Thanks,
Jim Cuneo 65 turbo 140 Norcal
