There has been discussion on this fuse idea on CCF (Corvair Center
Forum). The usual answer is to use a 60 amp fuse to avoid nuisance blowing.
If the battery is low, the alternator can put out maximum output to
charge it. That's why I said to disconnect the alternator red wire. If
everything (except charging) works, then it is the alternator charging
that is blowing the fuse.
A clean HRPT (horrid red plastic thingy technical term of endearment)
will give no trouble. But a fuse in that spot will give you peace of
mind, and allow easy disconnect for storage and anti-theft feature. So
of course I have never installed one, just clean the HRPT. Ha!
