A lot of cars back in the
day had solid steering shafts. They were deadly in
a bad head-on.
I think it was
oldsmobile back in the early '50s that had a pointy
center
cap on the steering wheel...

I seem to recall the
impaling steering column was on a Buick and that was
what put out Sammy Davis, Jr's eye, or so
the story goes.

book and don't recall the the
