<VV> Mig/tig welding floor panels.

I'm getting ready to weld new panels into my 62 Spyder.  It's been a while since
I've welded. I've heard several versions of Weldon them in. One is just tacking
tacking them in with an over lap of 1\4 to 3/8 of a inch and two, tack then in
and then completely make the weld all the way around the panel.  Any
suggestions?

Tack in place.... then weld short   lengths .... 1"  and let cool while welding another area...   Sheet Metal warps with too much heat.
