I appreciate all the input on my recent dilemma. I have a EM Spyder Coupe
and when I bought it three years ago I noticed that the rear wheel were
tucked in on the bottom more than normal, quite a bit more. Anyway, after much
debate and research I decided that the springs were that culprit. So, I
took the rear springs out last week no problem and discovered that HD springs
part # 6257159 were installed at some point. They are a couple inches
shorter and the wire is much thicker (.500+) than reg duty springs. The new
springs (stock) from Clarks arrived the other day and I found that they were
too tall to just slip into place as the shop manual reported. The local Auto
Zone was my next stop to get a loan-a-tool spring compressor. These did
not work because the adjuster bolts were way too long and they would not
clear the upper support and lower control arm. Next was a trip to the local
Harbor Freight to purchase their spring compressor set. Finally, I had to lob
off about 3 and half inches of the long bolts because I had the same
clearance issue with spring compressor as before only this time I owned it so I
could modify them. Today, all is finished and it feels beautiful. no more
bouncy ride either. I also replaced all the bushings on the transverse leaf
spring, and this really helped too, gave it more control. I have the HD
springs that are very close to like new condition if anybody can use them...I
will part with them very cheap, make offer.
