<VV> Change to 14" or 15" wheels on early Corvairs

JRVIDRINE at aol.com JRVIDRINE at aol.com

With proper sized 13" tires becoming rare, I'm considering the possibility
of trying to purchase 14" or 15" wheels and go with a tire that will fit
and work when my current (new) tires need replacement (yes - I'm planning on
keeping my 62 Monza Coupe and on living a long time - I hope). I have
heard that the 1963 Chevy II Nova SS came with 14" 4 bolt wheels with a 4 X 4
1/2" bolt pattern. Where in the world would someone find these. I haven't
had any luck checking the Internet.
In the March Corsa Communique there is a beautiful 1964 with some
great looking wheels. It only says that they are 15X7 XXR wheels with 206/60
tires. It looks like it has other than a 4 bolt pattern. How does that
work. If anyone has any ideas on this I would be interested to see them. I
believe that at some point we will have to be able to retro fit our cars
with 14" or 15" wheels or put them on blocks (which I don't want to do).

Thanks,
Randy Vidrine

I`ll pay for an updated printed directory if they ever put one out! You
don`t have to
be in a good service area for the printed directory to work!

John - the 2013 version is available from Corsa at the web site. Since
sales are restricted only to members - for anti-spamming reasons, I think
-
you have to log in and go to the store to find it. The "Publications" tab
covers the Communique, etc., not items for sale. If you haven't logged on
before, you will have to sign up somehow. I have forgotten how, I did it
many
years ago. Instructions might be somewhere on the site. - Seth

I have enjoyed that book a couple of different times the last few years.
Jonathon even autographed it for me I think in Sturbridge. Nice story for
sure. Suggested reading for all mankind IMO.

Caught fire? Makes it easy to find that way. I once had a '65 Monza 4 door
that was missing the grommet at the front engine shroud. The positive
battery cable rubber thru at that point and it too caught fire.

Humanity could learn a thing or two from this wonderfully different young
man. Yes, it is a great read, cover to cover and back again.

The author is Jonathan RINTELS. It is an outstanding read and a wonderful
story based on true life. Jonathan is a member of the Central Virginia
Corvair Cub. He and J.B. attend our events. The book may be purchased at

Makes me wonder if we shouldn't change the name somehow. Maybe the
International Corvair Society of the World (ICSotW)? Timothy Shortle in Durango

The directories don't get reprinted every year due to the cost involved.
We did one last year and the previous one was printed in 2009.

I'd vote for that! - or maybe even U for Universe. Actually, I think
that ICS would be sufficient. Then we could sell all new apparel to the
membership - with the new logo.

BTW - Tim, I read ALL your VV emails. I don't answer them all, but I do
read them.
