I've had my challenges keeping my foot in it without pinging and high head temps on the track, yes.

John, does that mean that turbo Corvairs can't be raced on a track without overheating??? If you're running them in "a spirited manner" you have to pay attention to the temp gauge and back-off the boost when the temp goes too far above "normal". Or you could use water injection as some Corvair turbo drivers have done. I do agree that you can't run high boost on an air-cooled engine for as long as you can run it on a water-cooled engine.

They do overheat, when driven in a spirited manner. Which, of course, is how
they're supposed to be driven!

It's always "operator error" IMO!

Saddest..but my Fav..... on the way to Flagstaff...Laughlin, NV where the
Caravan overnighted....

I told many to come with me early in the AM to avoid the heat and the long
climb up to Flag...

Most said, "We just made it across the desert in 108f heat..... it's a lot
cooler in flagstaff! 6,000 ft. elev.

I forget how many holed pistons there were that afternoon.... it was 90f in
Flag!
