These things used to have a burn off mode, whenever the engine was turned off, the wire would glow orange hot for several seconds to get rid of contamination. Not sure they still do that, but it was pretty much universal at one time.

There are issues which don't apply to carb engines, but to modern engines using
a MAF sensor.
"The bigger concern is that the air filter oil contaminates the "hot" wire on
the MAF sensor and leads to inaccurate air flow calculation. Fuel trims
compensate until they reach their max adapt limits. "
