I've never seen a Corvair with the smog system but all other vehicles I've seen the air pump plumbed into the exhaust.  If Corvairs are that way you would get exhaust not just hot air.

Guess I'll be checking my manifold stash tonight.  Are you referring to the AIR porting in the smog exhaust manifolds?  I take it that you are talking heat from it--the reverse of the original intent.  If so that sounds interesting for an off road, no heater toy.

This could be accomplished by using the chamber already supplied on a smog manifold.
