Why is there a PCV valve on the '62s, 63s & all (non-'61) FCs?

Guys --

If'n  y'all gots poly vinyl chloride pipe in your engine compartment, 
get rid of it! (except as carb air cleaner extensions, but it is still a 
fire hazard).

And, I've previously posted (more than once) about the lack of actual 
Positive Crankcase Ventilation in a stock Corvair -- there is no fresh 
air inlet to the crankcase to create the "positive ventilation".
