<VV> 4 speed transmissuon leak

Trying to locate the source of a tranny leak on my '63 4 speed. A good 
sized puddle appears when I let the car sit for several days. It appears 
to be coming from the lower shifter rod where it enters the tranny.  
There seems to be no leakage from above. If this is the source of the 
leak is it an easy fix?  What weight transmission oil should I use? Is 
it recommended the the oil be completely flushed?
