High heat is the cause. Heat is usually from slipping in a air cooled
powerglide, unless you have blocked the cooling holes...
Change the fluid, pray. There is a chance the detergents in the new fluid
will break loose stuck crud deposited by the brown fluid. But, hey, the
tranny needs an overhaul anyway at this point.
You wanted a new set of skills didn't you?
Our powerglides (and even the aluminum ones in rear wheel drive style) are
quite simple to rebuild. One Virginia club gives tech sessions on them.
