I think the operative word here is MAINTENANCE .  If you do it like we're supposed to, you won't have these preventable problems.  I've never had a sudden loss of power EVER in any Corvair I have ever owned because i'm always checking things "just because".  An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
