Tim,
First - I missed most of the conversation because of a crashed desktop
computer. I'm operating infrequently from a netbook at the moment. So, if
someone has already mentioned what follows please accept my apology for
duplication.
What about the up and down hills that I'm sure you encounter in your neck of the
woods. Could you have been pushing on the up-hills and coasting on the down
hills? Seems to me that something like that would put the engine through
several heat - cool cycles in fairly rapid succession. A possible dropped valve
seat looking to happen?
Later, JR

I was driving it pretty normally ('63 Rampside, PG, 3.55, very stock) and had
just made it to the town of Cortez CO about 1 hour from Durango. Ambient temp.
was in the 30s, dry, good visibility, etc. with nothing standing out as unusual
(except me in my Rampside).
So what I expect you will point out is the 140 is not a good candidate in an FC.
I would probably agree. Especially based on the fact that after I replaced the
heads with 2 95HP heads there was hardly any noticeable change in performance
except maybe the 95 had a little more torque off the line.

Lon, This was the valve seat failure that YOU diagnosed 700 miles away when I
