<VV> valve seats II

Lon, This was the valve seat failure that YOU diagnosed 700 miles away when I was crying on your shoulder at the banquet in Palm Springs. I at the time thought for sure it was a "crankshaft" rattle but you stated it was probably a valve seat had come out of place, was hit by a piston, and shattered into many small pieces. You were right on in your diagnosis.
The engine is (was) out of a '65 Monza 2 door 140 PG with case #RN. I had "rebuilt" the engine about 2 years prior using my 30 year old NOS TRW Powerforged pistons (remember those) and a basic valve grind being done by a very professional premiere VW shop. (VW!!!) They had done this work on the heads as a "favor" (they sort of owed me one-different story) probably 2.5 years/30,000 miles previously.I have owned this engine over 30 years now.
I was driving it pretty normally ('63 Rampside, PG, 3.55, very stock) and had just made it to the town of Cortez CO about 1 hour from Durango. Ambient temp. was in the 30s, dry, good visibility, etc. with nothing standing out as unusual (except me in my Rampside).
So what I expect you will point out is the 140 is not a good candidate in an FC. I would probably agree. Especially based on the fact that after I replaced the heads with 2 95HP heads there was hardly any noticeable change in performance except maybe the 95 had a little more torque off the line.
