All, I followed the thread on oil filters for a couple days and then lost track, so if I am repeating known information I apologize. I have some info on the subject that I received this morning from a well known Corvair repair tech. I remembered seeing an article or blurb about the filter problem somewhere so I figured he would know. My friends 61 Loadside actually has this problem and I have had to fiddle with or replace two of the clarks filters. Usually the leak shows up some time after the filter is put on, I mean days or months after, and sometimes tightening the filter fixes the problem.

What I was told this morning is the problem seems to be limited to all 60 and most 61 corvairs with the sand cast oil filter adaptor. We all know after 40 to 50 years who knows what adopter from what year is on the car so it could appear on other years other than 60-61. REPLACING the clarks filter with any other manufacturers filter appears to fix the problem.

Clarks is aware of the problem and is researching why this is happening.

I actually went down to the local car quest this morning and lo and behold they had a wix filter in a carquest brand box on the shelf. I have clarks filters on hand and several different oil filter adaptors on hand including at least one early FC filter adaptor so I am going to do some measuring and see if I can determine the problem. If you are interested I will report my findings.

Thanks and have a great day!
