there are a lot of front wheel drive cars out there that just plain wont  
handle at all without 4 matching tires, try putting 2 snows on a Honda accord 
 for instance...also mid size GM are MUCH  different / better with 4.
So to expand on this , 4 matching tires are a better feel on any car ,  
including Corvairs. When i had a tire rack of stock to play with , I did many  
personal  tests for our tire supplier , at the time (80's)  to give  them 
good information.
