<VV> No Compression in #3 - preventing crank journal scoring ?

OK, removed the nuts from the connecting rods, but have been warned about
the hazard of scoring if the thread should even touch the crank journals ?

What surprises await me, as I tap the end of the protruding bolt and before
its "exposed" so that I put a plastic sleeve (?) around it to prevent it
from touching metal-to-metal ?
