Does that mean "don't bother filing/sanding/smoothing/etc. it down" ?

As Spence said (later) I can ignore it if it is not raised above the surface

It is raised, so I need to shave it off, or it will tear into a new bearing
?

PS: Isn't the rod 'bearing' actually a 'bushing' ?

Charlie
