the VIN tag no doubt came off a coupe, or this IS a coupe where the top was sawed off...and the screws sort of give it away.

I've seen cars where it was obvious that someone actually DID saw the top off of a car...and try to pawn the dangerous wreck off (aka "coffin on wheels") as a convertible.  Mostly done on Impala SS cars, since they command such outrageous prices.
