Group -

This weekend my wife and I showed my 2 Corvairs at the Salmon Idaho Father's
Day Car Show. Each is a 1965 Corsa. One is a Tuxedo Black Turbo Convertible,
and the other is a Mist Blue 2 door 140 Hardtop. While the cars didn't win
any prizes (this is truck country), they were the only Corvairs in the show,
and they were fairly well received. I got to talk to lots of people about
Corvairs.

Unfortunately, the convertible didn't want to go home at the end of the
show. The battery may have been a little low from powering the top down and
up a few times, and it did turn the engine over a little slowly, and then
BANG BANG (loud metal on metal sound). I took the hardtop home and brought
its battery back; jumping the convertible with this battery. The next
attempt at starting was similar to the first - turning a little slow and
then the BANG BANG. Then the next attempt, and the engine turned over
normally; the car started; and, the engine seemed pretty normal on the ride
home.

I don't like the BANG BANG, but will probably try starting it again when my
mechanic can be present, but in the meantime, I told him I would sound out
Virtual Vairs and see if anyone had ideas.

I have had Corvairs for years. The hardtop since 1969 or 1970, and the
convertible since about 1978, and a couple other along the way. I would
guess I lost teeth on the starter or flywheel, but that doesn't really feel
right. I have also had experience with solenoid chatter from low batteries
and dropped valve seats, and this didn't seem to fit my memory of those.

If you have any thoughts on my problem, I welcome the input.

Chuck
