No, but one learned quickly to make sure one had one's foot firmly on the brake when shifting Powerglide, a habit I retain to this day.

Charles, Yes, but was there a loud clunk? My old 56 chevy had the powerglide and would also bump, but no loud clunk (unitl I had a u-joint going out!). I'm not sure there is anything in the powerglide that can do that. I'd look close at the differential. Maybe some bearings going out there allowing the ring and pinion to slap together. Mark Durham
