Quite correct - and to be honest the organizers appear to have put him in the "best fit" class for his car. If a 3.1 kit is the only real mod to it, then it didn't matter very much at all - if I were to try and make a stock Corvair faster in an autocross I would start by getting the best tires I could. Sounds to me like he brought a nice car to the event and drove better than most of the other entrants.
Having said that, I also think it's a little silly to not participate in an event if you had fun. Look, *every* event is going to have some problem for *somebody*. If you have fun most of the time, keep doing it.

He said he had a big bore engine. And, yes, his '62 Monza is stock except for the engine. I know the car well. He said it was his first autocross. The person doing the classifying should have properly placed the vehicle. I can't see where the problem should become Ron's, especially if he is new to autocrossing and doesn't know the classes. He told the official that his car had a big bore engine. He came out to have fun and see what his new motor would do.
