Why not just loop it under the body? Wouldn't that work?

Good point! You would have to mount the plate a couple of inches higher
han the connection to the transmission to be above the oil level.

I liked the idea of making a box or just a plate you can clamp the
cut ends
of the outer cable to and then overlap the steel inner cable and
use a cable
clamp or two.
You need to save the dash end and the PG end and cut the middle
somewhere.
