Subject: Noisy Valves

Hey Guys!

Today I set out to fix the noisy lifter on my 110. It is on the left
side and has been clicking for quite a while. I started out by setting
all the valves cold following the suggested order. When I started the
engine, the noise was still there. I narrowed it down to the #4
Exhaust. I loosened that one until it really clacked, then I
tightened
the rocker down until the noise stopped, then I went an additional 1/2
turn.. noise went away but after about 10 seconds, it returned (same
level as before). I could tighten the rocker and the noise would stop
only to return 5 to 10 seconds later. It finally got to the point that
when I tightened it up, the engine started to run really rough, but
then
would smooth out (and the noise would return). My thought is the next
step is remove the lifter and clean/examine it (or just replace it - I
have a new one). Am I correct? Or is there something else I should be
looking at?? I really want to get this fixed, it is really
embarrassing
to go to a cruise and arrive soun
ding like a thrashing machine! Thanks
in advance for any suggestions and guidance...
