<VV> clutch job: remove the drivetrain the conventional way or engine only?

Once upon a time, flat towed a late Vair halfway across the state 
with no engine in it, just tied up the (Powerglide) diff to keep it 
level and not stress any bushings, green nylon rope did the trick, 
hung from the sheet metal above the transaxle where the air inlet 
openings live.   Didn't take very much and no, nothing bent.
