Barry,
     I wonder how Billy Bruce does it with his modified turbo in a modified PG?  Maybe he uses a SafeGuard to automatically and momentarily retard the timing on the shift.  Does anybody know?

I believe they attempted to put a turbo engine in the car, with the 
Powerglide (kind of unusual, right there).  But they could not keep it from 
pinging when it shifted to drive. That's when they tried making the 3-speed 
automatic.  It still didn't keep it from pinging, so I think it got a 
normally aspirated engine anyway.
