You are correct, the power top frame, at least on lates is different from
manual frames.  The only kink, is you need to give the top a little push as
it's going down to "break" the first joint in the frame.  After that, it's
smooth sailing.  Powering up is no problem.

Caveat - I have never owned a convert, early or late, so this is  
second hand.  I have heard that there is a difference in the power and  
non-power top frames, to give a little more leverage to the motor.  I  
*think* this applies to late models, not sure about earlies.
