SBC SBF? too much weight  for rear ....  the kinky novelty would wear off 
pretty quick  .....consider one of the several aluminum 4 cyl  engines 
available  ...  a Cobalt with a turbo would be so so trick .. but would 
require  some brain twisting ... oh, and some money ... did I mention 
money?

Why not use a Rover (Land Rover) V8? they are the same as the Buick/Olds  
215 V8 but cast different and some of them are stroked for more CID.  There  
is a 'Vair in L.A.  with the 215 in it and the weight balance is quite  
good; handles well.
