I had a similar leak in my '67 a few years ago. I had installed an
electric pump and had to bend the line a bit. Unfortunately, that
caused a leak where the line goes into the sender. I tried some type
of epoxy "plastic steel or aluminum", I'm not sure what brand it was,
but the leak came back. Finally, I removed the sender (again) and had
Tony Ellison fix it properly. I'm not sure, but I think it's silver
soldered. It has never leaked again.
As with most repairs: Do it right the first time. Do it once.
You will find when removing and reinstalling the sender lock ring,
that it isn't easy to get the lock ring on and off the sender
properly. I'd suggest trying to find the proper tool or buying one
from Clarks. Maybe someone in your club has one to loan. It makes the
job a snap, rather than an exercise in patience in pounding on a
screwdriver to unscrew and screw back on the ring correctly so that it
seals right.
