I've also successfully used Loctite Form-A-Thread in these situations.

Yes, try a 1" long 1/4-20 bolt first before reaching for the helicoil
kit.
Has worked on many an occasion for me!

Two possible approachs.
Get a longer 1/4-20 bolt and see if there's enough thread deeper in the
hole.
Second drill and tap for a Heli-coil.

Ok guys here's my new predicament.. I used every ones awesome advice and
located, adjusted the lifter in question! Thanks again! While I was
tightening a vc bolt, you guessed it, I stripped the threads out... I
hardly
applied any torque at all so I know it was ready to go. I've heard a lot
of
different suggestions but none from a Corvair enthusiast.(Which I find
myself quickly becoming) _________
