<VV> 62 Disassembly

I am starting to disassembly by 62 Monza Coupe in preparation for final 
body work and paint. I have the 62 assembly manual, but it is no help 
for this specific question.
When attempting to remove the rear tail lights (the turn/stop not the 
backup) the wiring harness goes from the light assembly to a rubber male 
plug on the rear inner fender. While I can disconnect the wiring harness 
at the plug, I cannot figure out how to remove the plug from the inner 
fender or disconnect the wires that run from the light assembly to the plug.

So what is the trick to removing the lights?
