Dave,
By all means add vacuum advance to the distributor of your turbo Corvair. When I did this years ago on my 180, my gas mileage driving to work every day improved by 20+ % AND the car was much more responsive in stop-and-go driving as well as part-throttle driving. If you can wait for my next Chapter 2 which should e published "any day now" in the CORSA Communique, I'll explain the various options for adding vacuum advance. Or you can read some of this in the Turbocharging Chapter of the Corvair Basics manual currently available from CORSA and various vendors.

Hello Dave: I've been using the advance - retard unit, as produced by Dale
Mfg., for approximately 15-years; the unit is installed on a 64 Spyder with
150 turbo with wrapped exhaust. After fussing with the initial timing a bit
(finally settled on 20-degrees), I've been completely satisfied with the
outcome: gas mileage has improved, as has overall driveability.
Cheers!
