<VV> CORRECT FAN COLOR?

PErhaps there were different surface preps. The batch I have are dark 
to black, all over, including the hub areas, and it doesn't appear to 
be paint. Whatever that coating is, it doesn't come of at ALL easily. 
Not even with scraping. Magnesium can be anodized, but it's a rather 
different process than aluminum. And they can add dyes and pigments to 
the bath to color the coating. Knowing how easily mag corrodes, there's 
gotta be some kind of barrier coating on these.
Weren't these originally made by Donaldson? Not saying anyone's wrong, 
just spitballing here.

The gray color is based on my observation of my four Corvairs, all with
a known history and quite original.  The fans do get dirty and develop a
dark gray or blackish color and do develop corrosion over the years, but
mine where all gray (until I painted two of them).

Really? I have several that are VERY dark gray to black, all over, and
it appears to be some sort of anodic coating, not paint.

    the 64 coupe as close to correct as i can ).  most i have seen
are  semi

    gloss black. most steel fans i have seen are unpainted. ALL of
my stuff
    is  164 cu
    inch.
