Craig,

I *CAN* tell you from personal experience there can be ball joint
interference.

Way back I flat towed a just purchased van for a friend. It was on flat
ties, so I loaded up 4 good enough Chevy rims with tires that held air.
We installed the tires and proceeded to tow home. There was a noise, but
by the time we got out to look, a groove was worn in the ball joint so
the noise disappeared. When he put the van on the road he choose wheels
that fit. I don't remember if he replaced the ball joint.

I also have seen rim to ball joint interference on my 64 Spyder
convertible. Just the wheel weights lightly hit the ball joint. Made a
slight clicking noise until they wore away enough. They "look" like
stock Corvair rims. But hey, it was the seventies when I bought it....

My collection of NORS ball joints from Curtis Industries lable:

Replaces 3886422-X

Fits Chev. Pass 1958-UP
Corvair T. 1961-65
Corvette 1963-UP

And I do not recall noticing any difference in the front suspensions on
FCs. But of course I would have to be working on two different ones side
by side to remember!
