A longer bolt will help. Cleaning the crankshaft and greasing it helps
also. Make sure the key is not dislodging.
1/2-20 IIRC. You want one at least an inch longer than stock or you can
strip the first few threads.

> Hi Folks. I have a question about harmonic balancer replacement. I noticed a few weeks back that the rubber had seriously deteriorated on my harmonic balancer. So, not wanting to inflict serious damage by driving the car that way, I purchased a new balancer and a removal tool from one of the vendors. The tool was very handy and allowed me to remove the old balancer without lowering the engine.

Any suggestions? Should I get a longer bolt and use that to pull the balancer on say half way then put the original bolt back in?? Any tricks to this. I feel like I am missing something really obvious here. Thanks!
