<VV> Harmonic Balancer Change Out-Help Needed

Hi Folks. I have a question about harmonic balancer replacement. I noticed a few weeks back that the rubber had seriously deteriorated on my harmonic balancer. So, not wanting to inflict serious damage by driving the car that way, I purchased a new balancer and a removal tool from one of the vendors. The tool was very handy and allowed me to remove the old balancer without lowering the engine. 

The problem I have is now how to get the new balancer on the crank far enough so that I can catch enough of the retainer bolt threads to pull the new balancer all the way onto the crank. Any suggestions? Should I get a longer bolt and use that to pull the balancer on say half way then put the original bolt back in?? Any tricks to this. I feel like I am missing something really obvious here. Thanks!
