Second, one of my carbs doesnt seem to match the others. Three of the carbs
(the two primaries and the left secondary) have brass looking tubes sticking
up out of them (the tubes on the left front secondary are a little different
shape and size then those on the primaries), but the right side secondary
doesnt have any little brass tubes sticking up out of it at all. Other then
that the carbs look the same as near as I can tell.... what does this tell
me about the carbs and does it need to be replaced with a matching unit?
Any and all advice for my upcoming amateur carb rebuild would also be very
much appreciated!
Thanks!

Ray - Are the tubes sticking out of the lower body of the carb, or are they
sticking out of the tops of the top section of the carb - the part that is
scewed down onto the lower part. Several models of the H-series have a short
tube sticking up out of the lower body above the lower vent from the bottom
chamber. If the tubes are sticking out of the upper portion of the carb, someone
has started improving the turn cut-out resistance by raising the air vent of
the float chamber. I refer you to "How to Hot Rod Corvair Engines" for the
method. This is the first step toward providing"enough - but not too much" fuel
during faster cornering. Without the increased vent height, if the float
levels are set high enough to provide "enough" fuel in the chamber around the
jet, it will be "too high" and may spill over (out of the vents) into the
venturi area and into the motor. The tubes are the first step to remedy that
problem. - Seth Emerson
