Well, that depends on  WHERE you try to do it.   At home in northern NJ, 
not only won't  the garbage collector take a computer or  a TV, but they 
refuse 
them  even at the town dump.      Frank "knows a good thing  when he sees it"

California - typically ahead of the Nation - passed a law/tax that charges  a 
fee on every new tube or flat screen display sold in or into California.  
That money goes into a fund that compensates the facilities which have  to accept 
screens (computer or TV). So now it is easy to find a place  to drop off 
monitors or TVs. And, since there is NO CHARGE to drop them  off, almost none are 
being dumped into landfill anymore, or by the side of  the road.  It's a
