One of the schools listed in the excellent AW section is "Street
Survival", co-sponsored by the Tire Rack and the BMW CCA Foundation (and
taught by certified BMW driving instructors). My 17-year old took it
this spring and really enjoyed it. It consists of classroom defensive
driving plus and afternoon of actual defense driving and car control
classes in the student's own car. She really, really got a lot out of it
and in my opinion such a class should be mandatory before anybody gets a
license.
And at $60, it's hard to beat for an all day course. Class size is
strictly limited (and limited to 16-21 year olds) and is on a
first-registered basis for each site. And it even includes a year's
membership in the BMW club (along with their great magazine) and it also
appears that she got an Autoweek subscription as well (so now we're
getting two copies weekly!)
