I have owned an econoline (3 of them) continuously since 1964. I still have
an Arizona 1974 econoline that has no rust as I spray oil under it every
year. It is alot harder to get parts for it than my 63 rampside. Recently
I had to have a custom made crossover pipe made for it as they are no longer
available.
I chose the econoline over the corvair FC primarily because I could
fit a 4'x8' sheet of plywood in it - very important for a woodworker. I
still keep it as it runs OK, and I still need an occasional sheet of
plywood. My rampside is too nice to subject it to such abuse. Maybe I
need a "beater" rampside Gary! Dennis Dorogi

Redneck..........maybe.

The full story should have included my car was a 64 T-Bird, broke a power
steering belt just before we left for the concert. 64 T-Bird had hydraulic
wipers, so no power steering, no wipers. The econoline van was the only
option, but had no gas in it. Couldn't siphon from the T-bird, so we used a
couple gallons of snowmobile mix, to head out and look for an open gas
station on New Years eve. Found gas, ran out and had to push the van to the
pumps.Had the steering wheel fall off once, used up 3 batteries on the 30
mile trip to downtown Buffalo. thank goodness I took the battery out of the
Bird before we left as that one got us home............

Concert tickets were $6 each, nosebleed seats, we took binoculars.

Another friend saved his parents econoline pickup for years hoping to
restore it, finally junked it when he noticed the motor was touching the
ground.....only thing holding it in was the tranny mount..............
