Paul,
Recent threads on this, so you might search the archives. Westech (sp?)
makes a gauge with sensor(s)- check aircraft suppliers like Spruce. You can
either put a ring sending "unit"one under a spark plug, or use the bosses on
all Corvair heads. Difference between small valve and 140 head bosses are
the threads. Coarse for the standard small valve engines (except turbo) and
fine for the 140 heads. 140s and turbos used a thermistor connected to the
dash gauge generally thought to not be very accurate, more of an indicator
plus a "snap" or switch sensor (Small valve heads used just the sw sensor
going to the Temp light on the dash. Some folks use the bosses on the bottom
of the head or add one to the center cyl, again on the bottom. You would not
connect it to or thru the block. I am confused by your wanting a head
temperature gauge and then asking questions about the block. I think you
mean the "head". The manuals will show you where as will the Corvair books
and I think there is an article in the Tech Guide. All of these are
available thru the vendors and advertised in the CORSA Communiqué.
Good Luck
