OK....   Now you've done it.

All this fan talk and now I can't get the idle below 1500.

Guess what!  The fan has walked part way out of the top cover and won't let 
the throttle cross shaft down to the normal stop position.  For the moment, 
I pounded the fan back into place.  I'd estimate that it moved about 3/8 
inch.  Guess I'll be removing the turkey roaster very soon.
