on my 65 Corvair , looks like its going to be no treet ?
Only the first time is slow. Just be SURE you disconnect the negative
terminal of the battery. You've got the manual right? Jack up the car on a jack
stand or other secure lift (because, as a first timer you are probably going
to get under the car), remove the left rear wheel, remove the nut that
secures the positive cable from the battery, the two smaller (should be different,
but many are the same now) nuts for the small wires, using an extender loosen
the first (inside) bolt (your can do it blind, by feel, sitting beside the
car if your arms are long enough) alongside the solenoid, loosen the outside
bolt that you can see, now using the extender, completely remove the inside
bolt, start removing the outside (closest to the wheel) bolt while supporting
the end of the starter (don't want to put too much stress on those 43 year old
aluminum threads), finish removing the bolt, get ready to strain muscles you
didn't know you have and lower the starter, end first down through the
suspension opening directly below the starter. Drink a beer. Reverse above to
install the new one (clean up the wire connectors with emery cloth or a wire
brush before you reinstall them and coat the two large mounting bolt threads
with antiseize to protect the aluminum threads in the bell housing).
