The May 2007 Popular Hot Rodding has an article "Camaro Rising" on how GM designed the Panther Project (Camaro). Its interesting to see the early pre production designs with what appears to be '65 Corvair tail lights. Also it states that they, the GM designers began with the late model Corvair as their basis for size and dimensions. Unfortunately, the Panther project marked the last nail in the coffin for the Corvair as the General threw in the towel after being unable to compete effectively with the Mustang/Falcon on any basis other than initial cost as the small Ford V-8 and lightweight compact inline six were far more durable, and economical than the General's similar offerings,: Corvair and later the poorly engineered Chevy II. The May 2007 Hemmings Classic Car has in its technical Q&A around page 98 , some technical input from Larry Claypool, it seems the Hemmings Staff also feels the very wise Corvair wizard's brain power is worth tapping into.
Also inside May 2007 Hemmings around page 19 is a quick mention about the Corvair being a worthwhile affordable car and a reference to the old Lay's potato chip ads that CORSA members can't have just one. Tamias Metis
