i say use the late one with aluminum housing.  but remember the shaft  
diameter is bigger so you need a new housing and mag fan with pulley and bolts  to 
do it.  i do it to all of my engines. it  works out  well. 
 i put a nyquil med cup over the bearing for the first few hundred  miles to 
keep the grease from getting all over my nice clean shrouds.
